Discussion of Project Ideas: Generate new revenue streams or reduce the costs of delivering a BU education

The high, and rising, costs of higher education are an important motivator of change for us. Even though tuition is at an all-time high, it is not sufficient to cover the full costs of educating our residential students. How can BU use technology to generate new revenue streams and/or reduce the costs of delivering high quality education? Examples may include (1) innovative courses, programs (degree or non-degree), portals or activities that extend BU’s reach to professionals, alumni, life-long learners, foreign students and other non-residential segments; (2) online courses, modules and technologies that enable students to complete a BU degree in less time (with less cost and debt); (3) new educational technology artifacts (e.g. smart digital textbooks) that can generate profit for BU; (4) platforms of educational materials where BU (potentially in collaboration with other partners) can play a leading role.
